Gadsden County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. Its county seat is Quincy. Gadsden County was created in 1823 and was named for James Gadsden, who was Andrew Jackson's aide in Florida in 1818. Gadsden County is unique in that it is the state's only county with an African American majority population. Gadsden County has a total area of approximately 528 square miles of which 98% is land and 2% water. As of the 2000 census, there were 45,087 people, 15,867 households, and 11,424 families residing in Gadsden County, FL.
